Alumni at a Glance: Elizabeth Evans ’75
After graduating from Cornell, Elizabeth Evans ’75 started graduate school at the University of Iowa, where she received her masters of fine arts (M.F.A.) from the Writers Workshop. Today, she’s a fiction writer who has published six books: “As Good As Dead,” “Rowing in Eden,” “Carter Clay,” “The Blue Hour,” “Suicide’s Girlfriend,” and “Locomotion.”

Brett Janis ’14 has a superpower—research skills that may just alter biological medicine as we know it. Phil Lucas, the Edgar Truman Brackett Jr. Professor of History at Cornell College started a fire in his Civil War course. That is, Lucas “lit the fire that is still burning,” according to Kristen Tegtmeier Oertel ’91, for her passion for American history.

An echo-free test chamber invented by acoustician Leo Beranek ’36 will be inducted into the National Association of Music Merchants TECnology Hall of Fame.

Alumni at a Glance: John Beamer ’61
From working with the FBI to helping state employees with labor disputes, John Beamer ’61 has seen and done a great deal throughout his career. The Cornell alumnus was an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of Iowa from 1986 until he retired in 2018.

Alumni at a Glance: Jill Trzaska ’12
After graduating from Cornell, Jill Trzaska ’12 worked as an aide at a physical therapy clinic and pursued her bachelor of science in nursing (BSN). Today, she’s a registered nurse at the Bone Marrow Transplant/Hematology-Oncology unit at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (the downtown Chicago campus).

During his junior year at Cornell, Yongik Lee ’11 was selected for a summer research program at the Medical College of Wisconsin and his interest in cancer research began. After graduating from Cornell Lee pursued a Ph.D. program at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
