Reed strives to make an impact
Harper Reed ’01 is a hacker/engineer who builds paradigm-shifting tech and leads others to do the same. Harper loves using the enormity of the Internet to bring people together, whether as chief technology officer of Obama for America, chief technology officer of Threadless.com, or on his own projects. Harper and his Obama for America team created Dashboard, a site that connects volunteer teams and acts as an online component of the field office.

Lawyer and life trustee Kendall Meyer ’65 died Oct. 27, 2012, in Ponte Verda, Fla. He was 69 years old.

Musician and educator James Croft ’51 died Sept. 6, 2012, in Tallahassee, Fla. He was 81.

Robert Soper ’49
Robert Soper ’49 was the first, and for many years the only, surgeon to specialize in pediatrics in Iowa. He died Oct. 3, 2012. He was 87.

G. Homer Skarin ’43
G. Homer Skarin ’43, who served for nearly 30 years as clerk for the U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Committee, died Sept. 24, 2012. He was 91.

Edna Mary Byerly ’41
Librarian and Professor Emerita Edna Mary Byerly ’41 died Nov. 16, 2012, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was 93.

Career at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum
Stephanie Schmeling ’09 works as collections cataloguer for the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York City. A history major on the Hilltop, Schmeling left Mount Vernon to attend New York University’s graduate program in Archives and Public History. This choice came after working for three years in the Cornell archives, where she discovered that a love of history with talent for organizing could become a career.

As former executive director for the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce, Gina Caruso ’91 appreciates the neighborhood that is now home to Cornell’s McLennan Center.

Bob Martin ’66
Bob Martin ’66, a U.S. bankruptcy judge for the Western District of Wisconsin, spent a day with Cornell President Jonathan Brand as he taught his course, Nature, Functions, and Limits of Law.
