Cornell elects 17 to Phi Beta Kappa
Cornell College’s chapter of Phi Beta Kappa has elected 15 seniors and two juniors to the nation’s most prestigious honor society. They will be recognized during an induction ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 13, in Cole Library.
Their names will be added to the permanent plaque in Cole Library listing all members of Cornell’s chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.
Elected from among the top 15% of the senior class were Martina Avelar, Isabelle Bardessono, Brian Cochran, Connor Foster, Elizabeth Gardner, Becca Gutierrez, Ruthie Hale, Clara Haverstic, Elise Kalin, Grace Kann, Gwen Paule, Nate Phillips, Annika Sutter, Olivia Vinnes, and Nolan Zeger.
Elected from the top 5% of their class as juniors were Isabella Anderson and Mac Coleman. In addition, current seniors Emma Burnett, Billie Fogarty, and Greta Henderson were elected last year as juniors.
All members were selected based on good character and a distinguished record of performance in a broad range of liberal arts courses.
Phi Beta Kappa is the country’s most prestigious honor society, due to its long history and academic selectivity. Members include 17 U.S. presidents, 42 Supreme Court justices, and more than 140 Nobel laureates.
