The Department of Theatre at Cornell College will put on the devised theatre piece “Here and Now” April 25 and 26 and May 2–4.

Sacred Heart Archive in weeklong residency
Members of the Sacred Heart Archive are on campus for a week-long residency to support the ensemble cast of “Here and Now.” The residency will conclude with two workshops and a showing of the company’s devised production, “The Key Said Run and the Door Said Fly.” This free performance will be held on Saturday April 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimmel and will be followed by a post-show discussion open to the public.

Cornell College will welcome five female students and two faculty members from Aoyama Gakuin Women’s Junior College (Tokyo, Japan) with a welcome dinner and reception Feb. 24.

“Elephant Man” opens Feb. 21
Cornell College’s Theatre Department is producing the Tony Award-winning play “The Elephant Man.” The show runs Feb. 21, 22, 28, and March 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 23 at 2 p.m.

Staged reading of “Virtue” Nov. 14
The Cornell College Department of Theatre is hosting a staged reading of Tim Slover’s “Virtue” on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. on the Cornell College campus in the Plumb-Fleming Studio Theatre. Admission is free and open to the public. The audience is invited to remain in the theatre for a talk with the cast, playwright and director following the reading. This event is intended for mature audiences.

“Birth Witches” connects students with professionals
During Block 2, a dozen visiting artists joined Cornell students and faculty to produce the world premier of Jennifer Fawcett’s play “Birth Witches.”

HAIG Lecture: the absolute queen
Kirilka Stavreva, department of English, will discuss the use of queenship in Julie Taymor’s 2010 film, The Tempest, which cast Dame Helen Mirren as Prospera in Thomas Commons Nov. 7, 11:10 a.m.

As part of an ongoing collaboration between the Cornell College and Coe College theatre departments, Cornell theatre professor Jim Van Valen is performing in Coe’s production of “Proof” in late September.

Theatre department presenting Cloud 9 starting April 26
The Department of Theatre at Cornell College will present Caryl Churchill’s comedy Cloud 9 April 26 and 27 and May 3 and 4 at 7:30 p.m. and May 5 at 2 p.m. in the Plumb-Fleming Studio Theatre. Directed by Janeve West, Cloud 9 reveals the ties of colonial oppression and the bindings of post-colonial identities through cross-dressing, gender switching, and uproarious laughter.

Avenue Q runs Feb. 22-24 and March 1-3
Cornell College will present “Avenue Q” Feb. 22-23 and March 1-2 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 24 and March 3 at 2 p.m. in Kimmel Theatre. The show follows recent college grad Princeton, his former child-actor landlord, his Internet-addicted neighbor, and the rest of his colorful friends as they cope with the struggles of romance, careers, personal identity, and the ongoing search for one’s purpose in life.
