Music enthusiasts form Living Learning Community
It’s impossible to pigeon-hole the musical tastes of the members of Octave, and that’s the point. In 2009, seven music-loving friends founded this Living Learning Community that is dedicated to promoting musical diversity and appreciation on campus. Octave member Andrew Tham provided some insight into the group and its activities.

Faculty-student orchestra allows for side-by-side learning
The orchestra program is bursting with new energy after solving an unlikely challenge: the rising popularity of off-campus courses. Finding his orchestra short a few musicians in key areas last spring, director Martin Hearne filled the gaps with members of the Cornell instrumental studio faculty.

MOUNT VERNON – Lisa Hearne, soprano, will sing in recital on Tuesday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Ringer Recital Hall. Hearne, associate professor of music at Cornell College, will perform with Joyce Strabala of the Cornell piano faculty. Admission is free and open to the public.

Wind Ensemble concert tonight at 7:30 p.m.
MOUNT VERNON – The Cornell Wind Ensemble concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 18, in King Chapel, features special guest artists the Eastern Iowa Brass Band (EIBB). The EIBB is the only band of its kind in Iowa and is a six-time North American Brass Band Association division champion. Admission is free.
