Senior art exhibits open April 6
Senior thesis art exhibits will open on April 6 in the Peter Paul Luce Gallery at Cornell College. The show, which opens with a reception from 2-4 p.m. on April 6, will feature the works of Hannah Wilber, Katelynn Paul, Kathleen O’Connor, and Patrick Loughlin.

“Elephant Man” opens Feb. 21
Cornell College’s Theatre Department is producing the Tony Award-winning play “The Elephant Man.” The show runs Feb. 21, 22, 28, and March 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 23 at 2 p.m.

Cornell College’s Music Department will present two concerts in December: A choral holiday concert on Dec. 7 and a jazz ensemble concert on Dec. 10.

Staged reading of “Virtue” Nov. 14
The Cornell College Department of Theatre is hosting a staged reading of Tim Slover’s “Virtue” on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. on the Cornell College campus in the Plumb-Fleming Studio Theatre. Admission is free and open to the public. The audience is invited to remain in the theatre for a talk with the cast, playwright and director following the reading. This event is intended for mature audiences.

Allos Musica playing Music Mondays on Nov. 18

“Verde green” exhibition opens Nov. 3
“Verde green”, an installation by University of Iowa art professor Isabel Barbuzza, will be exhibited at the Peter Paul Luce Gallery from Nov. 3 through Dec. 1.

Cornell College and Riverside Theatre present “Birth Witches” starting Oct. 10
The Cornell College Department of Theatre, along with Iowa City’s Riverside Theatre, is producing “Birth Witches,” a dark satire by Iowa City playwright Jennifer Fawcett, and guest-directed by Leda Hoffmann. The production runs Oct. 10 through 13 on Cornell’s campus, and will be remounted at Riverside Theatre and run Oct. 18 through Nov. 3.

The Saint Louis Brass Quintet to play year’s first Music Monday
Take two trumpets, one French horn, a trombone, and a tuba — put them in the hands of virtuoso performers — add some lighthearted demonstrations — and you have the Saint Louis Brass Quintet. Alumna Founds Online Literary Magazine
Cornell Alumna Julia Morrison ’11, with help from staff members and contributing artists Marika von Zellen ’12 and Abbey Sturm ’11, founded the online literary magazine, The Alligator, geared at producing work from new artists, writers, and musicians. Their first issue features poetry, short fiction, photography, a comic, and an interview with a writer.

Cornell professor appearing in Coe College production
As part of an ongoing collaboration between the Cornell College and Coe College theatre departments, Cornell theatre professor Jim Van Valen is performing in Coe’s production of “Proof” in late September.

Penn-Goetsch to teach Smithsonian journeys course
Christina Penn-Goetsch, professor of art history, will teach a Smithsonian journeys course in southern Italy. She has also worked as curator of “Fluidity of Gender,” which has been exhibited in more than 20 venues.

2013-14 Fine Arts Calendar
Cornell’s fine arts events for 2013-2014 include a performance by The Brazilian Guitar Quartet, a co-production with Riverside Theatres of “Birth Witches” with Guest Director Artist Leda Hoffman, a variety of Luce Gallery shows including sabbatical work from art professor Tony Plaut opening Sept. 1, and the annual holiday choral concert.

Show about parental loss coming to Mount Vernon
“A Little More Than You Wanted to Spend,” Chris Clavelli’s heart-warming one-man play about parental loss, is coming to the First Street Community Theatre in Mount Vernon at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 for one performance only.
