Cornell College honored for service
For the third consecutive year Cornell College was named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.

Alumnus named scientist of the year
Tahllee Baynard ’97 was named 2012 Scientist of the Year by Black Engineer magazine. The award was presented in February and is part of the Black Engineer of the Year Awards, which honors engineers, research scientists and students. Baynard is vice president for program management of space systems at Lockheed Martin.

Alum named coach of the year
Rob Ash ’73, the head coach of the Montana State University Bobcats, was named the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year in January, honoring his success on and off the field. In 2011, Ash was named president of the American Football Coaches Association.

Stilwell wins Einstein award
Jama Stilwell, associate professor of music, has won the Alfred Einstein Award of the American Musicological Society, which recognizes an article of exceptional merit.

Cornell College ranked 32nd nationally
Cornell College is ranked 32nd among national liberal arts colleges in a list released today that uses a methodology derived from a physicist’s system of ranking international chess players.

Cornell listed in Princeton Review
Cornell College is one of the country’s best institutions for undergraduate education, according to The Princeton Review. The education services company features the school in the new 2012 edition of its annual college guide, “The Best 376 Colleges,” published Aug. 2.

Cornell College is one of 49 “Best Buy” schools, according to the 2012 Fiske Guide to Colleges.

Professors get grant for short-term study
Two Cornell College professors and one Colorado College professor have received a grant from the Associated Colleges of the Midwest Faculty and Career Enhancement program to study the effectiveness of short-term study abroad programs.

Relay for Life honored
Cornell College’s 2010 Relay for Life raised $35.97 per person, the most money per-capita in the Midwest Division of College Events, and more than double the amount raised by the second-place event.
