Cornell College is on the list of the 25 colleges with the best professors, according to the Center for College Affordability and Productivity.

Kinnard wins lifetime achievement award
Graphic designer and cartoonist Rupert Kinnard ’79 won the 2013 “Standing on the Shoulders” Lifetime Achievement award from the World Arts Foundation. Kinnard was honored for his work as a graphic designer and cartoonist, as well as his advocacy for LGBT causes. The award, presented on Martin Luther King Day, notes: “Your artistic talent and leadership to reach out to the LGBT community honors the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.”

Cornell sophomore Setsen Altan-Ochir won second place in the Associated Colleges of the Midwest Off-Campus Study Photo Contest.

One of the Cornell College Mock Trial Team’s three squads won first place for the second tournament in a row at the Illinois State Invitational held Nov. 2 through 4.

Cornell College Relay For Life places second in the nation
Cornell College’s 2012 Relay For Life was second in the nation and first in the Midwest Division for youth events. The event raised nearly $42,000. Cornell has received an award five out of the last six years, but has not placed second in the nation since 2009.

One of the three squads of Cornell College Mock Trial team took top honors at the Richard Calkins Invitational hosted by Drake University in Des Moines on Oct. 27 and 28.

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist John Sullivan ’93 spoke about the importance of investigative journalism when he came back to campus for Homecoming.

Cornell College still among “Colleges That Change Lives”
Cornell is still one of the 40 “Colleges That Change Lives,” and was included in the new edition of the book, which was released Aug. 28. The book, originally written in 1996 by former New York Times education editor Loren Pope, was revised by Hilary Massel Oswald and includes four new colleges. Cornell has been included in the book since the original edition.

In March, classical studies Professor John Gruber-Miller was honored with an Ovatio (Ovation) from the Classical Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS) for distinguished service and leadership.

Alumnus wins Pulitzer Prize
John Sullivan ’93, a reporter formerly at the Philadelphia Inquirer who now teaches at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, was on a team that won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service reporting.
