Class News Policy

Class News in the Cornell Report provides information about alumni to their classmates and the college community regarding alumni careers, families, activities, and whereabouts.

The information compiled in Class News comes from a variety of sources, including direct correspondence from alumni, clipping services, and news releases. The editorial staff makes every effort to avoid the inclusion of conjecture, rumor, and inaccurate, misleading, or defamatory information. We strive to publish the most recent news about Cornell alumni; however, information submitted on employment or city of residence, for example, can become outdated by the time the magazine is published. Alumni are encouraged to contact the college whenever they have news about job changes, relocations, and other important milestones.

The Class News editorial staff asks that alumni follow some basic guidelines when submitting information about themselves or classmates:

Weddings/Unions: Must include both spouses’ first and last/maiden names and complete date (day/month/year). Announcements older than one year at the time they are submitted will not be published. Please notify us after your wedding/union; we cannot publish based on an engagement announcement.

Births/Adoptions: Must include child’s first and middle names, and last name if different from father’s; legal names of parents (mother’s maiden name will be published if Cornell alum); complete date (day/month/year). Announcements older than one year at the time they are submitted will not be published.

Deaths: When reporting, please include a newspaper obituary if possible. Any material submitted must include name, complete date (day/month/year) and city/state of death.

News: At least the following basic information will be published and should be provided with any submission: name and class year, spouse name and class year if Cornell alum, city and state of residence, and your news. (If an alum does not provide full information, such as the city and state in which he or she resides, it will be added from Cornell records.) Street addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses and Web sites are not published. The following information will not be published, but should be provided so we may verify material if needed: e-mail address and daytime phone number of the person submitting the Class News item.
