Kolowski practices real-life CSI in New York City
Jason Kolowski ’98 practices real-life CSI as a forensic scientist with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) in New York City. Kolowski investigates DNA evidence from crime scenes, and was directly involved with forensic recovery after the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center.

Burke teaches art to at-risk students
Mike Burke ’01 majored in secondary education and art at Cornell. From 2002 through 2006, he taught at-risk students at Colorado High School Charter in Denver before moving into a district-wide technology role.

Elizabeth Bach ’07 earned a prestigious McElroy Fellowship as a Cornell senior, and is now studying prairie soil ecology as a graduate student at Southern Illinois University. At Cornell she majored in biology and environmental studies, with a minor in chemistry.

Bloomquist worked with Maya Lin as grad student in architecture
Mitch Bloomquist ’04 recently earned a master’s degree from the Washington University School of Architecture and Urban Design in St. Louis. At Cornell, he followed the pre-architecture track while majoring in art and minoring in music.

Francis Alan DuVal, 1916-2008
Professor emeritus of German Francis Alan DuVal, 91, of Mount Vernon, Iowa, died March 24, 2008, from complications due to pneumonia. DuVal was one of the original faculty to explore One-Course-At-A-Time and it was his enthusiastic report, along with Mel Hetland, that helped usher in a new era at the college.

For Akiko Miyake-Stoner, religion is not a passive activity but a call to engagement. After graduation she assisted elderly citizens as a case manager at the Adult Day Health Center in Seattle through a two-year opportunity sponsored the Lutheran Volunteer Corps.
