Associate Professor of Politics Megan Goldberg was interviewed by KCRG-TV9 for their daily streaming show Ask 9 on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
Goldberg discussed many topics related to the races on the June 2 ballot, including the results of Iowa’s gubernatorial primary. The host asked Goldberg about the loss of Representative Randy Feenstra.
“I think that by skipping debates it sent the message that he didn’t need to appeal to those constituencies, those types of people who would tune into the debates,” Goldberg told KCRG. “And I think that skipping the debates, he sort of ignored making the case to the groups that weren’t in his corner at that point.”
She also analyzed strategies used by the candidates, including efforts to align themselves with President Trump.
“I think that part of tying yourself that closely to the president means that people’s feelings about the president are going to impact their vote,” Goldberg told KCRG. “They already do, we already know that. But you can do things as a candidate to enhance how much people’s feelings about the president influence their feelings about you, or you can sort of mitigate it and weaken that relationship.”
The associate professor began teaching at Cornell College in 2019-20 and has actively shared her expertise with news outlets on a variety of topics since she arrived on the Hilltop.
