Cornell College students and faculty will collaborate on nearly two dozen research projects during the annual Cornell Summer Research Institute (CSRI), which runs from May 18 to July 10.
Forty-two students will work with 22 faculty members to study several liberal arts topics and will share their findings at the end of the eight-week institute.
“The Cornell Summer Research Institute is a premier experiential learning opportunity,” said CSRI Director and Assistant Professor of Statistics Tyler George. Students work closely with a Cornell professor to make new discoveries, explore career paths, and learn about disciplines across the liberal arts.
Students and faculty will gather to kick off CSRI at a picnic on Friday, May 22, where they will introduce their research projects.
This year’s topics include:
- • The impact of climate change on turtle nesting
- • A qualitative analysis of international friendships
- • Contemporary songwriting approaches in the professional circuit
- • The effect of antimicrobial peptides on diverse bacterial membranes
- • A comparative look at the economic development of AI in the U.S. and China
- • Shakespearean transcreations from Eastern Europe
- • Math education for today’s generation
-
- Participants also attend panels and discussions throughout the institute to help prepare them for life after college. Topics include applying for graduate school, marketing their skills, and learning about research ethics. At the end of the institute, the Cornell and local communities are invited to see students present their findings at a symposium on Wednesday, July 8, from 3–5 p.m. and Thursday, July 9, from 1:45–3:45, in the Thomas Commons, Hall-Perrine Room.
