Class of 2026 celebrated with May 10 Commencement

Cornell College will celebrate 254 members of the Class of 2026 as they complete their undergraduate careers on the Hilltop and receive their bachelor’s degrees at Commencement on Sunday, May 10.

The ceremony, which doesn’t require a ticket, begins at 10 a.m. in the Richard and Norma Small Athletic and Wellness Center (SAW) Arena. It will be live-streamed on YouTube. An American Sign Language interpreter will sign at Commencement and at the 3 p.m. Saturday Baccalaureate service

Among Cornell’s Commencement traditions are giving graduates the ability to sit by their friends rather than in alphabetical order, and for seniors to nominate their two speakers—a senior and a faculty member.

Four faculty members will receive emeritus status:

  • • Professor of Computer Science Leon Tabak, 1989–2026
  • • L.L. Hamline Professor of Liberal Arts James Martin, 1981–2026
  • • Professor of Art History Christina Penn-Goetsch, 1996–2026.
  • • Professor of Mathematics Jim Freeman, 1985–2026.

An inter-spiritual Baccalaureate ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 9, also in the SAW Arena. This Cornell tradition features meaningful words of gratitude by graduating seniors; readings by members of the Class of 2026; and wisdom for the life journey, which includes a reflection by College Chaplain Melea White.

Academic awards will be presented on Thursday, April 23, with 63 seniors receiving recognition for their outstanding achievements while at Cornell College.

Other events are also scheduled throughout the weekend. Follow all Commencement happenings on social media with #CornellCGrad.
