Goldberg discusses the Iowa special election with IPR

Associate Professor of American Politics Megan Goldberg.Assistant Professor of American Politics Megan Goldberg was interviewed twice recently by Iowa Public Radio’s River to River.

First, on Dec. 31, she was interviewed about the results of the Des Moines-area special election for the Iowa Senate. She also took a look back at politics in 2025.

“I think this is an example of how there’s been really strong recruiting,” Goldberg said. “The Democratic Party seems like they’re being quite strategic in recruiting folks with a lot of different backgrounds, with a lot of different experiences that they can bring to the Statehouse, and that they can sort of highlight different areas of expertise and experience once the session starts.”

Then, on Jan. 22, she was interviewed about the Democratic candidates campaigning for Iowa secretary of agriculture.

“Both of these candidates, I think, have potential to speak to folks who are on the other side of the aisle,” Goldberg said. “People are invested in the issue and so, for at least this office, are willing to think about a different kind of candidate.”

The assistant professor started teaching at Cornell College in 2019-20 and has actively shared her expertise with news outlets on a variety of topics since her arrival on the Hilltop.
