A leader in public health and hospice care, Ann MacGregor died Oct. 2, 2024, in Ashland, Wisconsin, at age 90.
Born in Indiana, she graduated with honors in 1956 with a B.S.N. from the University of Michigan School of Nursing. She held roles in nursing administration and clinical teaching before traveling the world with Project HOPE. MacGregor went on to serve as a public health nurse with the Migrant Action Program, to develop a care program for individuals living with terminal illness, and to lead several hospice organizations. She spent 20 years as executive director of Hospice of North Iowa and was the president of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization Board. After retiring, MacGregor helped restore the last remaining Frank Lloyd Wright hotel, was a dedicated community volunteer, and was an avid cyclist.
MacGregor was elected an Honorary Trustee at Cornell for her service to the college and support of her husband, and Life Trustee, John K. MacGregor ’41, who served on the Board for 26 years. Ann is survived by many family members who are also Cornellians, including five children/stepchildren and their spouses: John M. MacGregor ’67; Paul S. MacGregor ’71 and his wife, Barbara Martin MacGregor ’70; Laurie MacGregor ’74 and her husband Guillermo Cuellar ’76; and Andrew J. MacGregor ’91; and several grandchildren, including Sarah MacGregor Hays ’99, and great-grandchildren.
