Kinesiology research in the local media

Cornell Summer Research Institute (CSRI) received local media attention earlier this month. The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Sun featured an article on this year’s kinesiology project.

The kinesiology research group, led by physical therapist and Kinesiology Professor Kristi Meyer ’01, studied how core and hip strength relate to gait biomechanics—how people walk and run. The group included three rising seniors, Heidi Jorgensen ’26, Rylee Vandresar ’26, and August Giurato ’26. All three are kinesiology majors and are interested in pursuing careers in the field.

The students were working with human subjects and sophisticated equipment, and they presented their findings in the CSRI poster presentations on July 9 and 10. They were one of 20 different projects this year.

CSRI is an annual program that starts in May and runs for eight weeks. This year’s 45 students researched a variety of topics and participated in weekly professional development seminars and two public poster sessions.
