Sociology research featured on the news
A research project featuring the Sociology Department’s work with Willis Dady was featured on the Friday (July 12) evening news.
Junior Oriana McKanan and Professor of Sociology Tori Barnes-Brus were interviewed about the work they were doing to understand the relationship between health and housing during the Cornell Summer Research Institute (CSRI).
The researchers gathered information on the healthcare experiences and healthcare needs of clients to assist Willis Dady Homeless Services in developing programming and long-term strategies to improve the lives of Willis Dady clients. One area of focus during the summer research was street medicine.
“Street medicine is more direct. It’s social workers and doctors who go out together actively onto the street and they provide care to people on the street. They provide ongoing care, so if someone is in the hospital for something and they need follow-up care, they do that,” McKanan told KCRG.
