2024 Student Symposium takes place April 27

Cornell College’s most accomplished students are preparing to share their work on a variety of topics during the Student Symposium on Saturday, April 27.

The Student Symposium is a much-anticipated event each year for students, faculty, and the community. The event is free and open to the public. 

Students will present their scholarly and creative works to the community in the Thomas Commons. This year’s event will feature 34 students, working with 23 faculty members across 12 departments and programs. 

“Every year, the Student Symposium showcases the incredible accomplishments and ingenuity of our students and highlights the collaborative spirit that defines Cornell College. It’s a celebration of intellectual curiosity and academic excellence,” said Provost Ilene Crawford.

Students will present on a wide variety of topics, including:

  • Dissecting Depression: Using CRISPR to Study Neuronal Enhancer Regions
  • Protein and Mineral Analysis of Fruit from the Mariana Islands
  • Rubens’s Leda and the Swan: An Absolutist Interpretation
  • Metal Vocals: A Case Study
  • Beyond VADER: A Specialized Approach to Sentiment Analysis in YouTube Live Chats

The symposium takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Thomas Commons.

Refreshments and Opening Ceremony with remarks by President Jonathan Brand and Provost Ilene Crawford: 8:30 a.m. – 9 a.m.

Oral Presentation Session 1: 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Oral Presentation Session 2: 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Poster Session, Orange Carpet: 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
