BACO hosts events for Black History Month 2024

Cornell’s Black Awareness Cultural Organization (BACO) is planning events and raising awareness about Black History Month throughout the month of February.

During this Black History Month, BACO is excited to share its new social media campaign. President Rachael Adewusi says the group is planning to feature information on people who made an impact during the Civil Rights Movement or who played an important role in Black History Month on their account every Tuesday and Thursday during February. You can find and follow BACO on Instagram @baco_cornellcollege.

“We hold these events for Cornell and Mt. Vernon community every year to highlight the importance of our differences,” Adewusi said. “Although most people may know what Black History Month is, many may not know the history behind the month and how it came to be. We hope to incite more thoughtful conversations and also inform people about what Cornell is doing to celebrate. We hope to see you all there!”

This year’s events are free and open to the public.

Feb. 15: Yummy Black History Month Kahoot, 7 p.m. in the MLK Room in the Thomas Commons

This event will include Valentine’s Day sweets and information about Black History Month that you may not know!

Feb. 21: Ask a POC Panel with Cornell professors, 6 p.m. in Hedges, Thomas Commons

This is an annual event with a twist. This year’s event will feature Cornell professors instead of students. The panelist will be available to answer respectful questions. BACO encourages everyone to attend, listen in, and learn someone else’s perspective about different races and cultural and social issues.
