Goldberg featured in the media for Iowa Caucuses

Cornell College Assistant Professor of American Politics Megan Goldberg was interviewed throughout the evening on KCRG-TV9 and other media outlets about voter turnout and voting results for the Jan. 15, 2024, Iowa Caucuses.

Early in the evening, a big question was how the bitterly cold weather would impact turnout.

“There’s actually a lot of research on voter turnout and weather. It turns out, if it rains or if the weather is bad, people don’t turn out to vote as much. There hasn’t been a ton of Iowa Caucuses studied, and usually, we are talking about November elections, but people do decide to stay home when it’s freezing, when it’s wet, and when roads are bad. So there are certainly people who are going to decide not to [go]. On the other hand, caucus-goers are usually the most committed and most interested of voters, so they are probably going to be impacted a little less,” Goldberg told KCRG.
