Kanyiba featured in Equitable Civic Engagement article

Associate Professor of Kinesiology Lewis Kanyiba was featured in the article, “ACM’s Equitable Civic Engagement Institute Offers Applicable Lessons,” published by the ACM on Nov. 17, 2023. 

The workshop at Lake Forest College in Illinois focused on creating more welcoming spaces, improving education access, reducing achievement gaps for students of color, and reinforcing academic environments built around students’ potential.

“The big takeaway here is for recruiters to shift from deficit-based interventions to ability-to-achieve,” Kanyiba said in the article. “As a faculty engaged in the admissions committee and actively engaged in recruiting, these findings were critical to what I do.”

Director of Student Success Brooke Paulsen and Assistant Professor of American Politics Megan Goldberg also attended the workshop on Nov. 3–4.
