Drawing on a range of influences including psychoanalysis, contemporary fashion, and human belief systems, Beatrez’s work involves ritual, the recontextualization of materials, and aspects of the body. Their work encompasses sculpture, figurative and abstract painting, and installation. Beatrez’s recent paintings and multimedia installations explore core psychoanalytic notions of the symbolic, and the real, and the emergence of new meanings through the distortion of established iconography. By manipulating the physical data of the gallery with lighting, scent, display, and other interdisciplinary processes, Beatrez hopes to encourage transference of unconscious associations in the viewer.

Beatrez graduated from Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2020 with an M.F.A. in interdisciplinary studio art. They received their B.F.A. with an emphasis in painting at North Dakota State University in 2018. Beatrez is the co-founder/curator at Night Club Gallery in St. Paul, alongside artist Lee Noble.

The reception for “Tart Cherry” will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, at Cornell College’s Luce Gallery in McWethy Hall. The artist will be present, and the exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday–Friday 9 a.m.– 4 p.m. and Sunday 2–4 p.m.
