Cornell Summer Research Institute starts May 22
Dozens of research projects will get underway for Cornell College’s annual Cornell Summer Research Institute (CSRI) May 22–July 14.
Seventy-five students will work side-by-side with 25 faculty members to study a variety of topics.
“Participating in the Cornell Summer Research Institute gives students hands-on experience in important research and plays a pivotal role in their future opportunities in academia and industry,” said CSRI Co-Director and Assistant Professor of Statistics Tyler George.
Among many projects, the teams will be researching applied mathematics, AI and the future of economics, teaching transgender students in the choral classroom, and biomechanical analysis of sport movement during the eight-week institute.
Students and faculty will gather to kick off CSRI at a picnic on Thursday, May 25, at 5:00 p.m. Students will introduce their research projects on the McGrane Terrace, behind the Thomas Commons on the Cornell College campus. At the end of the institute, students will present their findings at a student e-poster symposium at 3 p.m. on July 12 and July 13 in the Thomas Commons, Hall-Perrine Room.
Throughout the institute, participants also attend panels and discussions to help prepare them for life after college on topics such as applying for graduate school, selling your skills, and learning about research ethics.
The institute is supported by the Ingenuity in Action program through generous funding from The Deskin Fund, the National Science Foundation, the Rebecca Joe Wearin Pulk Faculty Research Endowed Fund, the Mark Weston ’74 and Kay Weston Endowed Fund for Advanced Studies in Education, and many others.
