‘Peter and the Starcatcher’ opens April 27 at Cornell College
The magic of “Peter and the Starcatcher” hits the Cornell College stage April 27–30 with the story of everyone’s favorite boy who vows to never grow up–Peter Pan.
“Peter and the Starcatcher,” a play with music, is based on a 2004 novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson that was adapted for the stage by Rick Elice.
“The play is a funny and poignant take on the origin story of Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Hook, and Wendy,” said Cornell Visiting Artist in Theatre and Director Patrick Du Laney. “The cast of 12 plays well over 50 roles, from pirates to island orphans to mermaids!”
The cast includes 10 Cornell students, one Cornell alum and current staff member, and one community member. Plus, about 50 students will work offstage to bring the production together for audiences.
“People should come to see this show because it’s lighthearted, incredibly fun, and it’s going to be a very creative production,” said Cornell junior Richie Richardson, who plays one of the three orphans in the show, Prentiss, and is the scenic designer.
The show is perfect for families to attend but come prepared for all of the mischievous fun that will happen while in the theatre.
“We are creating an immersive experience in Cornell’s Plumb-Fleming Black Box Theatre with the play taking place in front of, behind, around, and on top of the audience,” Du Laney said. “Prepare to be taken on a ride!”
The show takes place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 27, through Saturday, April, 29. Then, on Sunday, April 30, the show will take place at 2 p.m. The Plumb-Fleming Black Box Theatre is located in Armstrong Hall on the Cornell College campus. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $7 for seniors and youth, and free for all Cornell students and Cornell employees and their families. Tickets can be reserved by emailing boxoffice@cornellcollege.edu.
