Knoop was interviewed at the beginning of the episode, hosted by Kai Ryssdal and Kimberly Adams, “We’re (still) not in a recession. Right?”

The Cornell professor talks about a number of topics throughout the interview. He explains how multifaceted recessions are and how they impact people.

“The more people who think we’re in a recession, the more likely it is that we will be in a recession as people change their consumption behavior and other economic behaviors,” Knoop said during the podcast. “So it’s not surprising that our treasury secretary is trying to sell us, trying to make us be optimistic.”

Knoop is the author of several books, including “Business Cycle Economics: Understanding Recessions and Depressions from Boom to Bust” and “Recessions and Depressions: Understanding Business Cycles.”
