Futrell ’16 receives Young Alumni Achievement Award

Cornell College has awarded Justin Futrell ’16 with the Young Alumni Achievement Award.

The Young Alumni Achievement Award is presented by the Alumni Association and the college during Homecoming Convocation to one to two alumni annually who have celebrated their 15th class reunion or less. The recipients have demonstrated leadership in their professions, a commitment to service, or a substantial commitment to the college.

Justin Futrell ’16 studied abroad during his senior year with classmates, Professor of Economics and Business A’amer Farooqi, and Dean Riesen ’79 to learn about economic development in East Africa. After graduating, Justin took a job with True North, but his experience in Tanzania stayed with him and evolved into an annual event in November called “Pull-ups for Tanzania,” facilitated through Riesen’s Tanzania Water Fund, and has raised over $175,000 to date.
