Cornell takes on Cornell in the esports Cornament

Get ready for the battle of the Cornells.

That’s right–Cornell College will take on Cornell University in a new esports tournament called the Cornament.

The two teams came together to create the competition, which will happen online Dec. 3–Dec. 4. Fans can watch on the Cornell College Twitch page

“I had an idea last year that it might be fun to do a series of competitions with Cornell University after we were mistaken for them a few times in competitions,” said Cornell College Esports Head Coach Jack VonKampen. “So I tweeted at them and they reached out to me saying they’d love to do a competition.”

The two Cornells will go head to head in Rocket League (Dec. 3 at 2 p.m.), Overwatch 2 (Dec. 3 at 3 p.m.), League of Legends (Dec. 3 at 6 p.m.), Smash Ultimate (Dec. 4 at 2 p.m.), and Valorant (Dec. 4 at 3:15 p.m.).

“I’m really looking forward to seeing how we stack up across the board against a large and prestigious school such as Cornell University,” VonKampen said. “We compete against big schools all year, but it will be nice to be able to face the same school in multiple games.”

VonKampen says he wants to continue to add new challenges to the agenda for the esports team to showcase their skills against other schools. Recently, Cornell took on rival Coe College for the first time, defeating them in three of the four games.

Since Cornell College was founded in 1853 and Cornell University was founded in 1865, we rightfully claim that we were the first Cornell. Now the esports team is ready to claim another first–as the first victor of the Cornament.
