Student Symposium takes place online April 24

Many of Cornell College’s most accomplished students are preparing to share their work on a variety of topics during the Student Symposium on Saturday, April 24.

Students will present their scholarly and creative works to the community over Zoom. The college is also inviting students who were scheduled to present last spring to share their work following the cancellation of the event at the start of the pandemic.

This year’s event will feature 43 students, working with 28 faculty members across 21 departments and programs. Oral presentations will be 15-minute pre-recorded videos with a live five-minute Q&A following. Poster presentations will feature a live lightning round for Q&A. 

“The Student Symposium is a real demonstration of what a Cornell education can do,” said Director of the Russell D. Cole Library and College Librarian Greg Cotton. “Seeing the passion of these 19–21-year-olds for the academic topics they are presenting about impresses me each year. I think the block plan really helps inspire students to research thoroughly and dig deeper to explore their interests.”

Students will present on a wide variety of topics, including:

  • Archaeologies of “Minoan” Ethnicity
  • Murals of Palestinian women fighters
  • Deepfake videos and politics
  • Algae in marine snails
  • Improving learning in physics labs

The symposium takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Keynote: 8:30-8:45 a.m.

Oral Presentation Session 1: 9-10:15 a.m.

Poster Session 1: 10:15-11 a.m.

Oral Presentation Session 2: 11-12:15  p.m.

Lunch and Round Tables Discussions: 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Poster Session 2: 1:30-2:15  p.m.

Oral Presentations Session 3: 2:15-3:30 p.m.
