Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Winds, Concert Band perform
Cornell’s Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Winds, and Concert Band will be featured in an outdoor concert at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, on the patio in front of Kimmel Theatre.
The concert is free and open to the campus and local community members. Audience members are required to follow COVID-19 safety precautions and encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. The Cornell College Music Facebook page will livestream the concert (see the recording).
The Jazz Ensemble is under the direction of Jim Buennig and will perform pieces from a variety of jazz eras. Buennig is a saxophonist who has released five albums as an ensemble leader and has presented his music throughout the U.S. and abroad.
Professor of Music Joe Dieker will direct the Chamber Winds and Concert Band. Music will include selections by Gossec, Mendelssohn, Gordon Jacob, and David Gillingham. Two student conductors, Adam Mitchell and Zachariah Collins, will lead the groups in performances of Karl King’s “Hosts of Freedom March” and Scott Joplin’s “Antoinette March,” arranged by Zachariah Collins.
