Edward Krieger ’69
Ed Krieger ’69, an actor who became one of the most prolific photographers of Los Angeles’ 99-seat theatres, died Dec. 22, 2020.
Krieger performed in musical theatre, movies, TV, commercials, and voiceover, but loved the stage the most. Among his favorite credits were “Godspell” and “Man of La Mancha” in Chicago. Later, he appeared in numerous productions at Downey (California) Civic Light Opera. For decades Krieger mixed photography with his devotion to theatre by becoming the go-to photographer for dozens of 99-seat theatres in the Los Angeles area.
“He’s one of the most recognized names in L.A. theatre, more so than some actors or directors, because he worked for everyone, and he always came through with that money shot,” theatre publicist Judith Borne told the Los Angeles Times. Like many publicists and artistic directors, Borne relied on Krieger for production stills, publicity photos, poster prints, and head shots.
His photos also appeared in Los Angeles Times’ articles on theatre.
Krieger was born in Chicago. He graduated from Cornell with a major in biology and returned to Chicago where he acted and began a freelance photography business. After moving to Los Angeles he continued shooting pictures even as his acting career grew. His film and television credits include “The Return of the Living Dead,” “Child’s Play 2,” and “Melrose Place.”
Krieger is survived by a son and daughter.
