Hagan’s perspective included in video game article

Assistant Professor of Psychology Christopher Hagan’s perspective was included in an article by Healio.com, “Video game helps teens cope with COVID-19.”

The article focuses on Shadow’s Edge, a self-help mobile game designed for teens and young adults.

“While Shadow’s Edge may act as a therapeutic tool, it should not replace professional mental health care, especially given the increase in suicide risk that has developed in light of the financial distress and social isolation that has been brought on by COVID-19,” Hagan said to Helio. “Patients experiencing suicidal crises should be encouraged to reach out to a mental health provider and/or contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK.”

According to its website, Healio.com is an in-depth specialty clinical information website for health care specialists, featuring news reporting, question-and-answer columns, and other educational activities in a variety of formats.

Hagan focuses his research and works on suicide, non-suicidal self-injury, Murder-suicide, and mental health.
