Shanata interviewed for C&EN

Associate Professor of Chemistry Jai Shanata was interviewed for an article in C&EN (Chemical & Engineering News) titled “Making invisible work in STEM more visible.”

In the article about how people underrepresented in STEM fields take on a disproportionate amount of mentoring and other service commitments, Shanata talks about how Cornell faculty at any stage of their careers can define what percentage of their work goes toward service.

“While teaching excellence is the single largest component of the tenure decision, faculty at Cornell College are empowered to decide how to balance the remaining components, including service,” said Shanata to C&EN.

Shanata ’05 has taught at Cornell College since 2014.
