Cornell research in Smithsonian Magazine, Fox News
Cornell College’s ornate box turtle researchers were mentioned in an article by Smithsonian Magazine and a story by Fox News about turtle-finding dogs.
As part of ongoing research on the threatened turtle species, students joined John Rucker and his Boykin spaniels, looking for turtles on a nature preserve owned by Bur Oak Land Trust in Johnson County at the end of May. Since then, the dogs have been traveling to other locations in the Midwest to help researchers find the turtles.
Cornell Summer Research Institute (CSRI) students Lizzy Ott ’21, Lily Ullenius ’20, and John Regis ’20 are participating in the research to identify the turtles and track the population over the years.
The Fox News story also includes an interview by Scientist Elizabeth Bach ’07.
