Alumni at a Glance: Tatiana Batson ʼ10

Tatiana Batson ʼ10 set a goal for herself early in her life. In 7th grade, Tatiana knew she wanted to work in the forensic science field.

So, it comes as no surprise that she majored in biochemistry and molecular biology at Cornell College and still values how Professor of Biology Craig Tepper spun even the most mundane material into something interesting with a great story.

Tatiana attributes One Course At A Time with providing her the focus on goal setting that enabled her to achieve her goals in a timely manner, which she continued to work toward after graduation. Tatiana interned at the New York Office of Chief Medical Examiner as a research assistant in the Forensic Biology Department prior to graduate school and later earned her master’s in forensic science.

In Tatiana’s current role as a drug analyst in the New Jersey State Police Office of Forensic Science, she analyzes evidence for the presence or absence of controlled dangerous substances.

“The job is infinitely rewarding and I enjoy working with my colleagues,” Tatiana said.  

When she reflects back on her memories of Cornell, she fondly recalls hanging out with her friends after class and how the distinct rhythm of the block plan made that possible. All of her friends wrapped up their classes at the same time, making it easy for them to connect with each other at the end of the day.

Tatiana has some advice for students interested in enrolling at Cornell.

“Definitely apply! The faculty are amazing, the culture on campus is not to be missed, and One Course At A Time is an extremely innovative way to teach and learn.”
