Truman Jordan: Life after Cornell
Truman Jordan
Chemistry, 1966-2002
Truman Jordan kept a small office in West Science for 15 years post-retirement, team-teaching one course a year. Now his “job” is being the Ram volleyball team’s No. 1 fan. He got addicted to the sport when his three daughters took it up in high school. He was also on the committee in 1978 that hired Ellen Whale, Cornell’s first volleyball coach, and has attended their matches ever since. Today he even rides with the team to away games. “It’s a non-contact sport that involves a lot of athleticism, which I think is beautiful to watch,” he says, “Plus I draw energy from young people, which is important as I age.” His post-game reports on Facebook are legendary.
