Peter Paul Luce
Peter Paul Luce, a Cornell Life Trustee who helped develop the college’s strong Colorado recruiting base, died Sept. 12, 2018, in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado. He was the son of Time Inc. founder Henry Robinson Luce.
Luce became a proponent of Cornell and its One Course At A Time curriculum after his daughter, Lynn Luce Kitt ’91, enrolled. He served on the Board of Trustees from 1989 to 1998, helping build the Colorado recruiting base by flying Colorado high school counselors to campus on 20 occasions. The Luce Admission Center is named for him not only because of his gift to renovate the building but because of his commitment to recruiting students. He was honored by the Luce Foundation, upon his retirement from Cornell’s Board, with a $1 million grant to fund and endow the Peter Paul Luce Gallery in McWethy Hall.
As a Life Trustee Luce served on the college’s Buildings and Grounds Committee. In 2017 he received a Living Legends of Aviation Award. Joined by his wife, Elizabeth Bardsley, he logged more than 4,000 hours flying for AirLifeLine and other worthy causes.
Luce is survived by five children and stepchildren, including Lynn Luce Kitt ’91, seven grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
