Lyle Lichty: Life after Cornell

Lyle Lichty
Physics, 1989-2017

“I often tell people that I am pursuing ‘a higher-level position in cutting-edge, applied physics,’” Lyle Lichty says of his post-retirement job with Total Tree Care of Iowa City. “Although I do like the physics involved in felling trees, I really enjoy the mental and physical challenge of reaching a limb and then removing it without injuring people or property.” The work occasionally returns him to the Hilltop (here he is pruning and cabling the Law Hall magnolia). He and his wife Ilona still live in the Mount Vernon home where they raised their three children. They became grandparents in 2015.
