Doug Hanson: Life after Cornell
Doug Hanson
Art, 1971-2012
Doug Hanson can still be seen about town on his bicycle, though less so now that he and his wife of 40 years, Sue Deibner ’78, moved to their acreage north of Mount Vernon. He maintains an active studio and gallery, hand-crafting more than 400 pots a year and holding a popular annual holiday exhibit and sale. Hanson co-founded Potters for Peace 32 years ago in Nicaragua and remains on its board; it has helped set up 50 ceramic facilities, making 7 million clay potable water filters in 43 countries. He and Deibner have a large family and lead a full life, tending to two horses, a vegetable garden, and 26 apple trees.
