President Brand included in Gazette story
President Jonathan Brand was interviewed for a story that appeared in The (Cedar Rapids) Gazette on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018.
The article discusses challenges facing private institutions across Iowa, in light of news that Iowa Wesleyan in Mount Pleasant considers its future with a lack of funding.
He shared with the reporter that Cornell has actively been preparing for this environment with curricular changes, new and renovated facilities, and impressive fundraising.
The reporter included Brand’s comments relating to the importance of a variety of education options in Iowa: Cornell President Brand seconded the idea that school diversity is paramount in fostering a healthy array of academic options.
Like a town with multiple coffee shops, Brand said, the goal isn’t to run the others out of business. Rather, he said, “They want to encourage more coffee drinkers.”
