Richard Arthur Blue ’58

Richard Blue '58Noted physicist Richard Arthur Blue ’58, of East Lansing, Michigan, died Feb. 6, 2018. He was 81.

After graduating from Cornell, Blue received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and completed post-doctoral work at The Ohio State University, specializing in experimental nuclear physics. From 1966 to 1979 he was on faculty at the University of Florida in Gainesville. In fall 1979 he joined Michigan State University in East Lansing as the senior liaison physicist at the National Superconducting Cyclotron, one of the world’s flagship nuclear science research facilities. He retired in 1994.

His father, Arthur H. Blue, taught math and engineering at Cornell College from 1952 to 1961. He is survived by four sisters, including Cornellians Margaret Blue ’56, Helen Blue Holder ’65, and Kathryn Blue ’67, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
