Brandi Shanata shares about statistics on TV

Lecturer in Statistics Brandi Shanata was featured on an episode of “Ethical Perspectives on the News,” which aired Sunday, March 25, on KCRG-TV9.

The show focuses on the idea that in recent years, scientists have examined published research and found that many results could not be reproduced. The panel discussed the use of statistics, the rewards for the publication of novel results versus the lesser rewards for checking claims that have already been accepted, the difficulties of communicating complex ideas to the public and to those who make public policies, and, most especially, the challenges of acknowledging and working with uncertainties that can never be completely eliminated.
