Jerry Wayne Clark
Long-time Cornell football coach Jerry Wayne Clark, 85, died July 30, 2017, in Broomfield, Colorado.
Clark played football for the University of Iowa, graduating in 1954. He coached at Fort Carson, Colorado, before returning to Iowa to coach high school football in Grinnell and Mason City. He served as head football coach at Cornell College from 1959 to 1986, and was inducted into Cornell’s Hall of Fame as its all-time winningest coach with a record of 159-85-1. During his time as football coach, the Rams captured six conference titles and were runners-up six other times. His victory total places him 2nd on the Midwest Conference all-time list.
Clark also served as Cornell’s golf coach from 1959 to 1974, as assistant basketball coach from 1959 to 1971, and as head baseball coach from 1978 to 1982. After leaving Cornell in 1986 he coached at Anderson University in Indiana, then retired to Colorado where he and his wife, Lois, established Make Marriage Marvelous. For 20 years, they conducted workshops and provided Christian counseling.
Surviving are three children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Lois, his wife of 65 years.
