U.S. News & World Report has once again listed Cornell College as one of the top 100 national liberal arts colleges.
The new 2018 report lists Cornell with a rank of 87 out of 233, which is up slightly from the previous year. During the 2016-17 school year, Cornell held a rank of 90. This is the best overall ranking Cornell has had on the U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges list since 2011.
“It is great to see the U.S. News & World Report ranking continue to gradually improve, reflecting Cornell’s continued dedication to our students,” said Colleen Murphy, vice president for enrollment and dean of admission. “We are adding programs, such as our new business and personnel management majors, and updating infrastructure, such as the construction of our new Russell Science Center, to create the best possible environment for all students.”
Cornell was also ranked as 64 out of 108 in Best Value Schools among the liberal arts colleges. According to the website, that takes into account a school’s academic quality and the 2016-17 net cost of attendance for a student who received the average level of need-based financial aid. Cornell also sits at 71 out of 215 schools in the High School Counselor Rankings among the liberal arts colleges, which is a number that comes from high school counselor survey results over three years.
The information for the 2018 edition of Best Colleges was gathered in spring and summer 2017. According to U.S. News, the rankings are determined by first dividing colleges into categories and collecting data from the college on as many as 15 indicators of academic excellence. Each of those factors is weighted based on how much U.S. News decides that measure matters. Then, colleges are ranked against the other schools in the same category.
