Seven professional dancer-educators will convene on the Cornell College campus this summer to offer the first-ever Cornell College Summer Dance Institute (CCDSI) for young dancers.
CCSDI will be held June 26-30 on Cornell College’s campus in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Designed for aspiring young dancers ages 12-18, the dance intensive will offer focused, pre-professional training in ballet, West African, musical theatre, hip-hop, and jazz. Participants may either stay in a residence hall or commute from home.

CCSDI is funded by a $10,000 Iowa Arts Council grant and an additional grant from the Mount Vernon Area Arts Council. Scholarships are available based on both merit and need.
Co-directing the Institute are Cornell Dance Artist-in-Residence Alvon Reed and Adam McKinney, an Assistant Professor of Dance at Texas Christian University. Both have extensive professional dance careers and will be joined by five leading faculty dance professionals and educators: Ramon Flowers, Duane Lee Holland Jr., Maurice Watson, Lovar Davis Kidd, and Ethel A. Sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily. To conclude the exciting week of intensive classes, CCSDI will present a dance concert free to the public in Cornell’s beautiful Kimmel Theatre. In addition, free workshops will be offered on nutrition, injury prevention, and choreography to all residents of the community.
