Ground-breaking guitarist scheduled for Music Mondays

Get ready to listen to the music of a man who is known as a ground-breaking innovator of the classical guitar.

Paul Galbraith
Paul Galbraith

Paul Galbraith will visit Cornell College as the second Music Mondays concert for the 2016-2017 school year. You can hear him play at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 20, in King Chapel.

Galbraith is known for expanding the technical limits of his instrument through his playing style. His eight-string Brahms Guitar, which he helped develop, is supported by a metal endpin (similar to a cello), which rests on a wooden resonance box. His guitar has a high and low string, compared to the traditional six-string guitar.

He has produced a series of critically acclaimed recordings of works by Bach, Haydn, and Brahms, along with his own arrangements of folk tunes from various countries. He was formerly nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Solo Instrumental Album.

General admission for Cornell’s Music Mondays concert is free and open to the public.
