Counselor polls

Fly-in event results
Most of you reported that receiving travel funds to visit a college would be a big deal to your students, and that they are very valuable tools to get students interested. When it comes to which students are invited, there were more varied opinions: While 52% of respondents said that fly-in events should be restricted to first generation or under-served populations, 35% said they should not be restricted at all, and 18% suggested that first generation and underprivileged students should be prioritized, but that the events should not be limited to these students.

You also gave us some great insights as far as the timing of a fly-in event for students. Several of you noted that flying in admitted students would be more worthwhile and more fair for the students knowing that they were guaranteed a spot before falling in love with the campus.

However, most of you were more interested in a counselor fly in event, which would allow you to share the insights gained with the students you work with.

Hosting students for a LIVE online event
Every block this year, Cornell has broadcast a LIVE online event with a Cornell student and admission counselor. Students watching the online events, which have been hosted through the Cornell College Facebook page, have the opportunity to ask students questions in real time.
