String music to fill King Chapel for 1st Music Mondays Concert

Get ready for the return of Music Mondays.

The first performance of the academic year is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, at King Chapel, featuring the new Red Cedar Chamber Music ensemble.

The concert will feature violinist Miera Kim and cellist Carey Bostian, who are celebrating their first season as directors and core ensemble of Red Cedar Chamber Music. The musical duo will perform their first commissioned work, “Red Cedar Express” by Michael Kimber, as well as an assortment of styles and period pieces from J.S. Bach to Bela Bartok.

Kim grew up in Iowa City and has held titled chairs with Orchestra Iowa and the Quad City Symphony. Bostian conducts the Iowa City Community String Orchestra, and was the former principal cellist of Orchestra Iowa.

Each year Red Cedar Chamber Music performs nearly 100 shows, and it is known for its 20-year tradition of bringing quality music to Iowans.

General admission for Cornell’s Music Monday concert is free and open to the public.
