Cornell College on the news for Iowa Private College Week and Pokémon competition
KCRG-TV9 featured Cornell College in a report about Iowa Private College Week on August 3, 2016.
This year, the admissions team thought up a way to incorporate a fun competition throughout the week. Admissions counselors created a Pokémon GO competition asking visiting students to catch a digital creature on campus, rename it with a creative nickname related to Cornell College, and send a screenshot of their creations to Cornell College on social media. The most creative entries won a prize.
The first full week of August is traditionally Iowa Private College Week (IPCW), when Iowa’s non-profit, private colleges and universities synchronize campus tour schedules across the state, making it easy for students and parents to schedule up to 10 campus visits in only one week. IPCW took place Aug. 1–5, 2016.
Prospective students and their families choose to attend an afternoon or morning tour at Cornell College. Throughout the visit, they saw the sights around campus and attended a handful of short presentations to learn more about Cornell. During one of those presentations, faculty members told students about Cornell’s One Course At a Time curriculum in which students take one course for 18 days.
