Students returning to the Cornell College campus may notice some changes.
“It has been a busy summer,” said Cornell Director of Facility Services Joel Miller.
The library is one place that is seeing some new additions. The Quantitative Reasoning Studio and the Writing Studio moved from the first floor of the library to the third floor, expanding their space and making them more visible.
“The view into the library from the ped mall will show more active spaces with these moves,” said Quantitative Reasoning Consultant Jessica Johanningmeier. “In addition, relocating these spaces allows for us to be seen by prospective families on tours, who often stop just inside the library entrance.”
As part of the move, the Academic Technology Studio also expanded on the first floor of the library.
“All of the studios address topics that can cause students anxiety: writing, math, and technology,” said Writing Studio Director and Director of Fellowships and Scholarships, Laura Farmer. “My hope is these new spaces will put students even more at ease, and be a welcoming space for everyone.”
The Cornell College facility team has worked on several other projects to continue to make the entire campus more welcoming.
Not only did crews clean every room in the residence halls, but they also painted all of the rooms in Merner Hall and replaced all of the mattresses there.
The exterior trim of Thomas Commons received a fresh coat of paint, and crews rekeyed the doors of the entire campus, providing a higher degree of security and safety for students, faculty, and staff.
People will also notice some changes at the Richard and Norma Small Multi-Sport Center. The locker rooms were fixed up, and a new wheelchair ramp entrance is getting installed on the west door.
The facilities and campus security teams are also adding more security cameras to campus, including in residence hall entrances and around the sport center.
Finally, the facility team continued its work to install more LED lights around campus, and students and faculty will notice new signage in many places too.
From signs to library changes, the campus is ready for another school year.
