Leslie Johnson Cook ’47

Red Cross executive and community advocate Leslie Johnson Cook ’47, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, died Feb. 7, 2016, at age 89 in her hometown.

Cook, who graduated from Cornell with a theatre degree, served as executive director of the Pikes Peak Chapter of the American Red Cross for 30 years. She also played a leadership role for the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center’s children’s theater program, where she wrote and directed plays. She served on several boards, including Keep Colorado Springs Beautiful and the Pikes Peak Community Action Agency.

During her career, she helped open the country’s first Red Cross Shelter, and was the second female member of the local Rotary Club. She was presented numerous service awards for her lifetime community work.

She is survived by six children, 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
